The reference desk

I man the reference desk a few nights a month at NSU. It's a great place to be. When I'm able to help someone, it feels wonderful. I'm new here, but each time, I feel a little more confident and am able to help a little more.

I've been having a little too much fun with Picnik, the photo editing software that comes with Flickr. I like heavily saturated photos, but it makes the Williams Library look more like a carnival than it should, I'm afraid.

Another day, another holler

We moved from California to South Dakota more than 20 years ago. South Dakota is a great place to raise kids. In a way, it was like moving back 20 years. People say hi to you on the streets. Your kids sing Christmas Carols in school programs. It's safe to leave your car unlocked at the grocery store.

This year, only our youngest is still at home and our older kids are all on their own. The house is a lot quieter, except when April, Kenneth, Tony and Gabriel come to visit. These are the local grand kids. The others are in Virginia.

When grand kids come to visit, then all the wonderful life and excitement is back for a while. It's great to have grand kids in town.
